CrossWay Church Sermon Podcast Scores Mennonite Mention

Last night I was reading the latest issue of The Mennonite, which is the national publication for our denomination. The table of contents mentioned an article called “Sermons Heard ‘Round the World.” When I turned to the article, I saw that it was about Mennonite churches that are podcasting. I was surprised to see us mentioned in the article! That was pretty cool.

You can read the article here or listen to it at this site.  But just so ya know, CrossWay only shows up in a sidebar in the actual magazine, and is not mentioned in the online article.  Oh well.  It’s still an interesting piece about podcasting Mennonites, especially since so many people don’t think we even use phones.

Oh yeah, that reminds me–I need to update the podcast.

American Mustache Institute

In case anyone is really interested, click here to visit the website for the American Mustache Institute.

Thanks to my strange younger brother Dylan for the link.  Only he would send me such a thing.

Democratic Delegate Toy

For any political junkies out there, CNN.com has a pretty cool toy you can play with.  It’s a graph with the remaining states that have not yet held their Democratic primaries.  You can slide the scales around to see how the outcomes in each state would affect the overall delegate count.

In playing with this, I found that even if Clinton crushed Obama 75-25 in all the remaining elections, and also claimed the remaining unpledged superdelegates 59-41, Obama would still be on top by four delegates.  And those are all extremely unlikely scenarios.  I hadn’t realized just how far behind Clinton was!

Anyway, have fun playing with it.  You can find it by clicking here.

Updated Church Website

Carolyn gave the CrossWay Church website a much-needed update today.  (You know a website hasn’t been updated in a while when you feel the need to blog about it being updated!)  She changed the graphic, the background color (it looks much better!), updated the time for Sunday morning Bible study, plugged the Christmas Eve service, and added our prayer request email link.

Hopefully in the next couple months the site will become more interactive and we can make it more informative.  Right now it’s pretty basic, mostly because the church has been in the process of internal rebuilding.

“Come Together”

Pastor John’s crew at the Gathering Tree did a series called “Classic Rock” last month (I like the working title: “Rocktober”). It was based on 1 Peter and carried a classic rock theme. Something they did that’s really cool was a remake of the Beatles song “Come Together.” They gave their own twist to the lyrics. You’ve definitely got to give it a listen!

Just click here to go to their website, and you’ll see in the middle of the screen, toward the bottom, where it says “Click To Download Song – ‘Come Together.’” Make sure the volume’s up, click on the link, and enjoy!

Great Speeches

Last night I found this really cool website.  After unsuccessfully searching iTunes for Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech, I found a website where you can download that speech, along with others, at no cost.  It’s called “American Rhetoric: Top 100 Speeches of the Twentieth Century.”

The website has classics like inaugural speeches by FDR (“the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”) and JFK (“ask not what your country can do for you…”), RFK, and other speeches by MLK, like the one he gave on the same night he was killed.

There are lots of great speeches by other people with three initials, one by a fellow with only an initial for a last name (Malcolm X), and even some by people with four names (Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton & Dorothy Ann Willis Richards–but HDRC & DAWR just don’t have that ring to it) so I’d encourage you to take a look.  You can visit the website by clicking here.  You can find Lou Gehrig’s farewell speech, a Hubert Humphrey speech from 1948… I could go and on.  There’s some real history here!

Best New Website On the Internet

The world of www dot is now better than ever before.  My wife has designed a website for her class, which you can see here.  I sure could use a big dose of kindergarten teacher creativity.

Enjoy!
