Christmas KidsFest 2009
On Saturday we had our third annual Christmas KidsFest here at CrossWay Church. It was great! We had 41 children. They had gingerbread cookies that they painted with colored frosting, made Christmas ornaments, sang songs, ate lunch, opened a present with their name from under the Christmas tree and then played with their presents, and Continue reading

Sledgehammers, Cute Babies, Cosby, and the Devil
What’s happening: We’re halfway through the Revealed series at CrossWay. Last Sunday I preached about the devil–the dragon of Revelation 12. It just worked out that it was the day after Halloween. Carolyn and I have watched every episode of The Cosby Show. We just finished the eighth and final season. Now that’s good television! Continue reading

Stuff
Stuff: We’re almost halfway through the series “Revealed” at CrossWay. It’s going well, but I wish I had another two or three months to prepare for it! Guess I’ll always feel that way. Sermons are like paintings–it’s hard to reach a point where I can say, “It’s finished.” Laura Marie is eating “solid” food! Doesn’t Continue reading

Revealed
Beginning in October at CrossWay Church we’re doing a seven-week series on the Book of Revelation. It’s called “Revealed” and will use seven powerful images from Revelation to see what this book about the last days can teach us about living in this day. I’ve been looking forward to this one for months! Continue reading

Return of the Podcast
Woo hoo! After being out of commission for several months, the CrossWay Church Sermon Podcast is now back in action. I’m trying to catch up on uploading the backlog. Unfortunately some recordings didn’t turn out. But at least now we can start getting the weekly messages back online. However, this did present me with a Continue reading

Community
Last night our church started a new community group. A community group is where a lot of church really happens. Rather than a larger, impersonal setting with lots of people, it’s a smaller, more personal setting. It’s where life-on-life relationships can really happen. Community groups have played such an enormous role in my own life Continue reading

Coaching…But At What Cost?
The apostle Paul was imprisoned in a dungeon a short time before he was to be executed. He sat down to write one last letter. He’d written many letters to many churches and individuals over his long ministry. This final letter was written to Timothy, a younger man that Paul had coached as Timothy began Continue reading

New
Today marks the start of a new year: preschool begins at the Training Station and Carolyn starts her new teaching job. She’s teaching three-year-olds three afternoons a week. A new school year also means more time in the office and more interaction with preschool families. It’s always exciting to enter a new season! This morning Continue reading

Philemon
We concluded the Postcards series yesterday at CrossWay with a message on Philemon. This is a fascinating letter that the apostle Paul wrote to a slave owner named Philemon on behalf of the runaway slave Onesimus. It’s a masterpiece of persuasive writing, but even more than that, it gives us a clear picture of what Continue reading

CrossWay Church Sermon Podcast
Hopefully the CrossWay Church Sermon Podcast will be back up soon. It hasn’t worked in two months. GoDaddy had been telling me dumb stuff like “clear your cookies,” which of course did absolutely nothing. Finally a different person in their “support” department told me to do something different–something that can only be done either by Continue reading
