Invitation to Riches

The past couple days I’ve been hearing stories from CrossWay people about how they’ve been inviting unchurched people to be our guests for the “Hollywood God” series which starts a week from Sunday. That’s awesome!

Inviting people to church, as simple as it sounds, is the most effective way to reach people for Christ. There are lots of things that churches can and should sometimes do to help publicize their church in order to let the community know that they’re there. Yet nothing can compete with the power of the personal invitation.

Not too long ago I read about a very interesting study. I wish I could remember the name of it and who did it, but I can’t recall. Anyway, in a rather large and diverse poll, these researchers found that most people (sorry, I can’t remember the percentage) would go to church if they were invited. Why do so many people not go to church? Simple: No one’s invited them!

The reason we want people to come to church with us is not because we want anything from them; it’s because we have something we want to give them. Imagine if someone gave you 500 trillion dollars and told you to share it with others. You’d do it, right? That’s more than enough to be so rich you could never spend it all, and still give away the vast majority of it.

That’s what God has done in giving the riches of Jesus Christ to His church. All of His promises are embodied in Jesus Christ. We have all kinds of priceless and eternal treasures in Him! And we need to share. That’s why inviting people to church is so important. And that’s why I’m so proud of our people at CrossWay who are making the effort to invite others to enjoy Jesus with us!

  1. Amen!

Double amen to the last paragraph!

  2. You should visit CrossWay, Judy. We could use some ameners in the congregation!
