Yankee Stadium
Yesterday I got tickets for a game at Yankee Stadium in July. Believe it or not, this was actually Carolyn’s idea! She knew it was the last season the Yankees were playing in the House that Ruth built, and she knew it would be meaningful for me to make it there before the end of Continue reading

Painting & Podcasting
This afternoon I just didn’t feel up for painting, so during that time I edited and uploaded today’s podcast. Record time! It’s available through one of the links on the right. Carolyn’s painting that she’s working on, a profile of a child whose parents are friends of ours, is coming along amazingly. She doesn’t see Continue reading

Embarrassing Typo
As someone who has earned the reputation of being something of a typo sniper, I guess it’s my duty to publicly confess my own embarrassing typos. The elders at CrossWay are working on overhauling our church’s Constitution & By-Laws. At a meeting a couple weeks ago I gave our elders a current copy with proposed Continue reading

Irony of the Day
This afternoon the Bloodmobile was in Ocean Pines. As I sat there waiting for a while, longer than usual, I kept wishing I had something to read while I waited. I couldn’t help being struck by the irony of finding myself in this situation while sitting in the public library. By the way, my pulse Continue reading

I’m still not sure exactly what polity is, but it sounds pretty complicated. Our instructor is very good–knowledgeable, funny, personable, and good at both imparting information and facilitating discussion. Continue reading

MLK
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This one seems especially significant because the span of time since his death is now longer than the span of his life. A few years ago Carolyn, my dad, and I visited the museum in Memphis that’s located where he was Continue reading

Kickin’ a Phat Beat
After the teachers left the Training Station yesterday afternoon and I had the building all to myself, I practiced on the drumset. Josh recorded the songs for this Sunday so I could practice. It worked pretty well. He recorded the guitar and vocals, so I put them on my iPod along with recordings that other Continue reading

Ethnicity
Today I had to fill out a form that asked my ethnicity. Sometimes these kinds of forms give you options, usually consisting of things like: African-American, Latino or Hispanic, Asian-American, Native American, or White. Why don’t white people get a cool ethnic designation? Some forms even offer the designation of “Non-Hispanic White.” Any description that Continue reading

Carolyn’s Half-Birthday
Today is a very special day: It’s Carolyn’s half-birthday, and that only rolls around once every four years. She only has one half-birthday for every presidential term and Olympic Games. Happy half-birthday, Carolyn! Continue reading

Great Quote About Capital Punishment
From the current issue of Christianity Today: “It’s anti-evangelical to kill people. Christianity is redemptive. But you can’t redeem people by extinguishing them.” – John Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute This seems obvious, yet so many people miss it. As a white evangelical, it’s embarrassing that white evangelicals are the strongest supporters of the Continue reading
