  • Snowy Backyard

Yesterday was such a beautiful snowy day!  Here’s a picture of our backyard: Winter rocks!  Oh yeah, I took a shot of one of the trees in the neighborhood when they were in full color about three weeks ago, but never posted it: Continue reading

  • CrossWay Advent Wreath

This past Sunday marked the first Sunday in Advent.  Our Advent wreath this year is a little different.  Here’s a picture: We’re using a wreath made of thorns to remind us that the birth of Christ led to His crucifixion.  As Simeon told Mary the mother of Jesus: “And a sword will pierce your own Continue reading

  • Troy, the Tree, and Tradition

Christmas is buried in tradition.  There are traditions that are common to lots of people, like Christmas trees, presents, cards, eggnog, caroling, Advent wreaths, It’s a Wonderful Life, etc.  Other traditions are unique to families. With Carolyn and me, we have an unusual tradition that reflects our difference in taste.  My favorite Christmas tree ornament Continue reading

  • Wanna Box? Oh Yeah, and the Peace Lamp

With the arrival of our Mennonite peace lamp, my office is now officially filled to capacity with boxes. Boxes of mugs, letterhead, envelopes, more mugs, business cards, greeting cards, more mugs, new candles, used candles, parts for the sign, the peace lamp, pens, Bibles, and more mugs. Our CrossWay Church mugs came in today! Here they are, but once again, they’re taken with my phone so they’re low-quality pics: Continue reading

  • R.I.P. Paper Dog

One of the three-year-old classes at the Training Station used shapes cut from construction paper to make pictures of dogs.  Each child named their dog, resulting in names such as “The Big Red Dog” (the dog was brown), “Puppy the Dog,” “Paper the Dog,” and “Big the Dog.”  One little girl, whose artwork is shown Continue reading

  • Family Saturday

Last Saturday Carolyn and I went to my brother Jason’s house. The whole family was there. We celebrated my mom’s birthday, ate some good grilled food, and got to see our new little nephew for the first time! It was great spending time with the family and playing with all the babies. Two of my Continue reading

  • Social Weekend

Whew, what a weekend!  Carolyn had Friday off, so she came to the Training Station with me so she could meet some of the kids she’s been hearing about.  It was great!  We sat with the kids during their Bible story, watched some three-year-olds learning to play Duck Duck Goose, and played with the kids Continue reading

  • Kids Rock

Over the weekend one of Carolyn’s students from last year, now in first grade, made her a card and gave it to her yesterday. Here are pictures of the front and inside: She explained that the people in the drawings are herself and “Miss Hyde.” Is that absolutely precious or what?!? Continue reading

  • Baby Andrew

My sister-in-law, Kristi, is having her third child in a few weeks.  So a couple days ago I took a picture of him to share with you.  Here he is: And you thought sonograms were impressive…. Continue reading
