Funny Kid Stuff

  • Yeah, I’m a Big Fan of the Number Five, Too

Yesterday at the Training Station the kids made a list of things that they’re thankful for.  Three-year-olds come up with the best stuff.  This is just a sampling of the things these kids are thankful for: a new nightgown with princesses on it peanut butter cups whipped cream rolly pollys And my favorite: the number Continue reading

  • Family Saturday

Last Saturday Carolyn and I went to my brother Jason’s house. The whole family was there. We celebrated my mom’s birthday, ate some good grilled food, and got to see our new little nephew for the first time! It was great spending time with the family and playing with all the babies. Two of my Continue reading

  • Kindergarten Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday I went with Carolyn’s kindergarten class to visit the pumpkin patch.  It was Wright’s Market, the one we went to with Riley & Jenna a couple weeks ago.  The kids went through the corn maze, went on a hayride, picked pumpkins, had a snack, fed goats, and ate lunch. There was one little guy Continue reading

  • Who’s the Winner Now, Kid?

Whenever I’m outside with the Training Station kids and the bell rings for the class to line up to go inside, there is inevitably a straggler or two.  This problem is always easily remedied by calling the kid’s name and saying, “I’ll race you–I think I can win!”  I take off running toward the line, Continue reading

  • Sponge Bob McDonald’s & The Dance Revolution

Yesterday Carolyn and I borrowed a couple little kids from some friends of ours.  We took Riley (age 5) and Jenna (almost 3) to the pier at St. Martin’s to catch some crabs and look at the fish.  They had a great time, slung mud all over Carolyn, and spent about an hour and a Continue reading

  • Turn Right After “Spiderman,” and Take the First Left Onto “Cars”

Recently I visited Carolyn’s kindergarten classroom.  All the hallways at the school have names, like roads. I noticed that Carolyn’s hallway was called “Finding Nemo Lane.”  Seemed like a funny name for a hallway, so I asked about it. Her explanation?  They let the kids pick the names! Kids are so funny about naming things–like Continue reading

  • He Must Be Around Here Somewhere

One of our Training Station teachers told me something funny the other day.  Last week I spent a good amount of time–and energy–pushing some preschool kids around the playground in a big toy Jeep that seats two kids (or eight, depending on how many pile on).  After doing this for several days, I happened to Continue reading

  • The Team Names They Come Up With These Days

Over the weekend my mom was spending some time with my nephew (her grandson) Justin.  He was watching the Ohio State Buckeyes playing football. When my mom asked Justin what he was watching, he said: “The Butt Guys!” Continue reading

  • Kids Rock

Over the weekend one of Carolyn’s students from last year, now in first grade, made her a card and gave it to her yesterday. Here are pictures of the front and inside: She explained that the people in the drawings are herself and “Miss Hyde.” Is that absolutely precious or what?!? Continue reading

  • An Innovative Use for Chapstick

To follow up with yesterday’s news flash about the expiring chapstick, I thought I’d share a story that my sister-in-law, Kristi, emailed to me several months ago. I have no idea who wrote it, but it’s worth a read. It’s called “The Greatest Mother’s Day Story Ever,” and I believe it pretty much lives up Continue reading
